The first SEPS call for proposals in 2015 focuses on micro hydro power (P/MHP) technologies in the region of Southern Asia and South East Asia. The countries of Southern Asia include, in accordance with the United Nations definition, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Iran, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. South East Asia comprises Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam. This call is linked to the activities of the Hydro Empowerment Network, which is supported by the WISIONS initiative, but is open to both non-members and members of the network. The deadline for the submission of applications is April 8 2015, 16:00 GMT. What support does SEPS offer? SEPS generally offers support for two kinds of activities: the implementation of sustainable energy projects (SEPS – Support of Projects) and the realization of knowledge exchanges between organizations/specialists (SEPS – Support of Knowledge Exchanges). Find out more about SEPS criteria and the application procedure under criteria. Background on Pico and Micro Hydro Power TechnologiesThe technical focus of this call is on projects that aim to implement, standardise or disseminate innovative and sustainable pico or micro hydro power (P/MHP) solutions to meet local energy needs (e.g. access to reliable electricity, mechanical power for food processing etc.). In addition, projects that demonstrate P/MHP combined with other renewable energy technologies are welcome. We are also looking for knowledge exchanges within the target region that address the capacity-building of actors and organizations in the sustainable pico or micro hydro power sector. Please note, however, applications without a P/MHP component will not be taken into consideration. Background on hydro power issues and project examples can be found under Micro-Hydro Power in our Technology Radar and in our brochures “Access to Electricity” and “Food Issues”. Support of Projects With its limited grant funding, WISIONS cannot offer support for the straightforward replication of common projects – the unique character of the project concept is an important criterion for selection. Projects concerned with promoting domestic appliances (e.g. cooking facilities for households) are excluded. In order to be able to assess the project proposals submitted and compare them in a structured way, SEPS has drawn up a set of criteria. They are set out in our SEPS 2015 Project Application Form and applicants must give detailed information in each section. Background on sustainability aspects of renewable energy technologies can be found in our Technology Radar. Examples of projects supported in the SEPS scheme can be found under SEPS Projects. Support of Knowledge ExchangesAdditionally, we are also looking for exchange activities that can strengthen the capabilities of practitioners and local organizations working in the field of applied renewable energy technologies. For that end SEPS supports face-to-face exchanges, for example:
Exchanges can address issues such as technical challenges, financial strategies, managerial capacities, methods of motivating the local population etc. These are just some examples of exchange types and topics, however the SEPS support is not limited to these examples. The peer-to-peer exchange proposal must demonstrate a sound and coherent approach that is in accordance with the specific needs and expertise of the organizations involved. Applicants are required to submit a completed SEPS 2015 Exchange Application Form, as well as an exchange budget in Euros (EUR) and a detailed timeline for the exchange activities. |
